National Treasure

My son and I went to see National Treasure: Book of Secrets the other day.
What a fun movie. Yes, there are plotholes...yes it's not overly realistic...but it's a fun adventure movie with some history thrown in along the way. I think Nicholas Cage plays the hero in these movies better than any other role he's done.
Diane Kruger is spunky and beautiful as Cage's on-again/off-again girlfriend. And Justin Bartha is fantastic as his sidekick. The chemistry between these three actors in these roles is what makes the movie work...especially Bartha and his humor. The movie would not work at all without Bartha.

The delightful Helen Mirren played a very different kind of role than what she's known for...
and her scenes with Jon Voight were hysterically funny.
As for Ed Harris, he made a great villain.

Yes, I know that the movie has a ton of plot holes and that it's very implausible. But sometimes you just want to have some fun adventure along the lines of the Indiana Jones movies. Sometimes things don't have to make sense...they just need to be fun. This is one of those movies.
